Catching Up With The Real Housewives of Orange County

The faltering economy has hit each housewife in its own way. Gretchen Rossi  is no longer in real estate, and Jeana Keough has seen her real-estate income slashed by two-thirds. Tamra Barney has seen the value of her home plummet — it’s upside down, like a lot of our homes. Lynne Curtin  was forced to move out of her house because of trouble paying the rent.

Vicki Gunvalson  said she’s doing fine these days, overseeing 700 insurance agents, an insurance school called Coto University, and an upcoming book. Still, she regretted throwing her husband Donn under the bus several times last season. “It was embarrassing for him,” she said. “He didn’t deserve that. We should have talked about it in private. I was feeling alone and overworked and felt loveless. But it hurt him.” She said they promised they wouldn’t insult each other on national TV anymore.

Tamra and Gretchen discussed their differences, and they did NOT get into a fight. (However, wait and see what transpires in the first episode of season 5! Rawwwwr!) Tamra brought her cute daughter, Sophia, 4, to the interview.

During this upcoming season, we’re going to see marital problems between Tamra and husband Simon Barney. Even the dreaded D-word, “divorce,” will be mentioned at least twice, I hear. It seems the pressure and spotlight of being on a nationally broadcast reality TV show has affected the Barneys’ relationship.

Alexis Bellino  seemed nice. She is 32, lives in Newport Coast and has three kids: James, 3, Melania, 2, and Mackenna, 2. She said she puts God first, then her husband Jim, then her kids. She regularly attends Free Chapel Church in Irvine. And she likes to stay fit.

Lynne said she’s doing well, although she recently had to move from her Laguna Beach home because of finances. She is expanding her cuff and accessories business, viewable at lynnecurtin.com. This season, we may see her undergo some kind of cosmetic procedure…

Gretchen looked great and wants everyone to see “the strong, fun-loving Gretchen” this season. She is dating Slade Smiley, former fiancé to Jo De La Rosa  a previous “housewife,” and former beau of Lauri Waring  Peterson, also a previous “housewife.” Smiley was also in the low-rated Bravo series “Date My Ex” with Jo. If you missed it, you hardly missed a thing. Trust me.

Gretchen said she and Slade have been friends for eight years, and he was the only one, besides her direct family, who called her every day to check up on her after former fiancé Jeff Beitzel ’s death. Gretchen said she got “beat up a lot” by the other housewives last season. She hopes it will be different this season, but with Slade back in the picture, the other housewives may not be so kind. ( Really, ya think?)
